Local fabric collector ready to sell her stash Neatly stored in the basement of a house off wabigoon lake drive is an eclectic and rare collection of fabric, decades in the making. Debbie maclean has been collecting rolls upon rolls of fancy fabric since she was a little girl, when she was first inspired by her mother, an avid sewer who let her pick out fabric at a local shop here in dryden many years ago. After receiving her first Pandora Charms Sale sewing machine as a high school graduation gift, maclean began putting her fabric collection to good use.While in her twenties and living in alberta, maclean had even more time to use up the fabric she had collected over the years. "I sewed because it was partly economic but also partly because you could build your vision,"Maclean said. "The thing with fabric and sewing is that it's timeless and that's what interested me. " But after moving back to dryden, becoming a mother and working full time made sewing on a regular basis difficult, but that didn't stop her interest in collecting and searching for fabric.Instead of creating or making something out of the fabric she was buying Pandora Necklace while on vacation or in local shops, she started a collection that is now taking over parts of her home. "At first i sort of pretended that i was sewing, but to me just being surrounded by textiles was still again like a treasure hunt,"She said. "I'm interested in the whole ancient tradition of textiles and how people no matter where they are in the world, fabric, textiles and clothing are all universal. " Maclean says that over the years searching and looking at new fabric has been like an escape for her and a very effective stress reliever. "I did get a few raised eyebrows but it was something that i was unapologetic about because to me it really was one of the less damaging kinds of stress relievers that a person can have. " Over the years her family and friends, including her daughter, a former fashion design student, have often raided her (click here) stash for projects of their own but she still has plenty left over and is now ready to share her collection with the community. "I think when you're not using it and there's too much of it and it's starting to take over your house then it's time to start sorting it out and spreading the wealth. " Maclean and her daughter will be hosting a fabric sale at their home located at 769 coombes drive off wabigoon lake road on saturday, sept.Maclean says that all of the proceeds from the sale will be put towards her daughter's move out west next month.
